Our History
Women Empowerment Project International herein referred as WEPF is a registered and a unique voluntary charity registered in the Gambia since May 2017, one of the strongest and pioneers in the provision of Women Empowerment Training and activities, purely Gambian.
Born through a dream during childhood, achieved whilst lecturing in the United Kingdom on difficulties faced by African women the Gambians in particular, ranging from Female Genital Mutilation, Domestic Violence, early girl child marriage, girl child labor and many more, Maimouna Yaya, Jarrai, Kanyi herein called Mai Kanyi came with the birth of WEPI as the founder and Chief Executive Officer.
Driven by the conviction that we can have a safer world and that each person has the power to protect and save lives, we strive to reach out to everyone, to fortify and safeguard lives, spurred on by our vision of strong, healthy communities – a – universal need that seeks a universal response – Women Empowerment rooted in our heritage, committed to serve current and future generations, we are challenged to be responsive to the growing need, dedicated to our shared goals, and united in our efforts.
To respond effectively we must reach out to people in new exciting ways. Building up networks, creating and reinforcing partnership in various sectors, will assist us in our mission. Protecting health and saving lives through Women Empowerment entails concrete achievements: to win greater public and legislative support, to improve the quality service and availability of required resources, to motivate and retain staff & volunteers with systematic planning and management.
Strategies to facilitate the delivery of services includes: event promotion and advocacy program to revalue image of Women, lobbying with authorities, publishing guidelines, harmonizing courses and materials, training on Women Empowerment management and quality assurance, and increasing market and technical research for product development.
